What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive, holistic therapy that aims to restore wellbeing by encouraging the body to balance and heal itself. The practice can be used alone or to complement some other forms of treatments.
Reflexology developed from ancient forms of healing through the feet and hands, thousands of years ago in places such as Egypt, India, China and North America. The therapy developed further in the Western world just over a century ago, with research and documentation into how points and zones of the feet, hands, ears and face link to corresponding parts of the body. Through this research and practice, there are now many studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of reflexology.

How does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology is based on the theory that different points on the feet, hands, face and ears ‘mirror’, or correspond to, parts of the body, its organs and systems. A reflexologist will attempt to ease congestion, pain or inflammation by stimulating blood flow and energetically connecting with a specific area in the body.
This is done by applying a variety of pressure techniques using their fingers, thumbs or knuckles to the specific corresponding points or ‘reflexes’ on the hands or feet. This helps the body to rebalance and cope more readily with demands on physical and mental energy.
The primary effect of reflexology is deep relaxation and improved circulation in the blood and lymph vessels. By inducing a relaxed state, the body is better equipped to heal itself as nature intended.
